What is Profhilo?

What is Profhilo?

Profhilo is an injectable treatment made from a high concentration of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the skin, where it helps bind water and support hydration.

Unlike dermal fillers, Profhilo is not usually used to create structure, contour or volume. Instead, it spreads beneath the skin and is used to improve skin quality more broadly. It is commonly considered for areas where the skin appears crepey, dull, dehydrated or less firm.

You may consider Profhilo if you are noticing:

Skin that looks tired or dehydrated
Fine lines linked to skin thinning or dryness
Loss of firmness or elasticity
Crepey skin on the face or neck
A general decline in skin glow or smoothness
Early signs of skin laxity

Common treatment areas include the face, neck, décolletage and hands, depending on your skin concerns and suitability.

Profhilo is often chosen by people who want a natural-looking skin refresh rather than a more obvious injectable result.

How Profhilo works

How Profhilo works

Profhilo works by placing hyaluronic acid beneath the skin, where it spreads through the tissue and helps improve hydration and skin quality.

Collagen and elastin are important proteins involved in firmness, bounce and elasticity. As we age, these naturally reduce, which can make the skin appear thinner, looser, duller or less resilient.

Profhilo does not work like a traditional filler. It does not sit in one area to build shape. Instead, it disperses more widely beneath the skin, without adding volume, which is why it is usually used for overall skin quality rather than contouring.

The result is gradual. Many people choose Profhilo because they want their skin to look fresher, smoother and more hydrated without looking as though they have had anything obvious done.

A typical Profhilo treatment plan often involves two sessions spaced around four weeks apart, although the exact plan should be based on your skin, goals and assessment.

What Profhilo cannot do

What Profhilo cannot do

Profhilo can be helpful for skin hydration, firmness and overall skin quality, but it is not designed to treat every concern.

It does not replace lost facial volume. If your concern is flatter cheeks, deeper folds, lip volume loss or changes in facial structure, dermal fillers may be more suitable.

It does not freeze or relax muscles. If your concern is forehead lines, frown lines or crow’s feet caused mainly by repeated facial movement, anti-wrinkle injections may be more appropriate.

It does not remove pigmentation, acne scarring, broken capillaries or significant sun damage. These concerns may need treatments such as laser, microneedling, chemical peels, medical-grade skincare or other skin-focused treatments.

It does not provide a surgical lift. If there is significant skin laxity or heaviness, Profhilo may improve skin quality, but it will not reposition tissue in the way surgery or certain lifting procedures can.

It is also not an instant glow treatment in the same way as a facial. Results develop gradually as the skin responds over time.

The most natural results usually come from choosing the treatment that matches the cause of your concern. If your skin looks tired because of dehydration and reduced elasticity, Profhilo may be appropriate. If the issue is volume loss, pigmentation, texture or muscle movement, another approach may be better.

“I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Carmen at Glow Aesthetic! She’s so kind, professional, and really takes the time to listen to what you want. I never felt rushed, and she explained everything in a way that made me feel totally comfortable.
The treatment itself was quick and surprisingly painless, and the results are amazing — super natural but still made such a difference.
If you’re thinking about booking with Dr. Carmen, do it! She’s truly the best.”

What happens during the consultation?

What happens during the consultation?

Your consultation is used to understand what is actually causing the changes you are noticing in your skin.

We will assess your skin quality, hydration, elasticity, texture, fine lines, facial structure and areas of laxity. You may be asked about your skincare routine, sun exposure, previous injectable treatments, medical history, allergies, medications, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and any previous complications.

The consultation will also explore what you are hoping to achieve. For example, you may feel your skin looks dull, tired, crepey, dry or less firm. These concerns can sound similar, but they may have different causes and may need different treatments.

You will be advised whether Profhilo is suitable, how many sessions may be needed, what kind of result is realistic, how long results may last, and what aftercare is required. Possible side effects, such as temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, small bumps at injection points or bruising, will also be discussed before treatment.
