What is Exosome Microneedling for hair growth?

What is Exosome Microneedling for hair growth?

What is Exosome Microneedling for hair growth?

Exosome microneedling for hair growth is a regenerative scalp treatment that combines professional microneedling with an exosome-based topical serum applied to the scalp.

Microneedling uses fine needles to create controlled micro-channels in the scalp. These micro-channels stimulate a natural repair response and may also help improve the delivery of topical products into the upper layers of the skin.

Exosomes are tiny cell-signalling particles being studied for their role in communication, repair and regeneration. In hair treatments, exosome-based products are used with the aim of supporting the scalp environment and encouraging healthier conditions around the hair follicles.

You may consider exosome microneedling for hair if you are concerned about:

Early hair thinning
Increased shedding
Reduced hair density
A widening parting
Thinning around the crown
A weaker-looking hairline
Scalp quality and recovery
Hair that feels finer or less resilient than before

How does Exosome Microneedling for hair growth work

How does Exosome Microneedling for hair growth work

The treatment works in two parts.

First, scalp microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This stimulates the body’s repair response and may help activate pathways involved in tissue remodelling, blood flow and follicle support.

Second, an exosome-based topical serum is applied to the scalp after microneedling. The aim is to support the scalp environment during the repair phase, when the skin is more receptive following treatment.

Results are gradual. Hair grows in cycles, so visible improvement is usually assessed over months rather than days or weeks. A course of treatments is usually needed, and the response depends on the type of hair loss, how advanced it is, your general health, scalp condition and whether any underlying causes are also being treated.

What Exosome Microneedling for hair growth cannot do

What Exosome Microneedling for hair growth cannot do

Exosome microneedling can be an effective treatment, but it is not suitable for every type of hair loss.

It cannot guarantee hair regrowth. Some people may respond well, some may respond modestly, and some may not respond.

If the scalp has been completely bald for a long time, or the follicles have significantly miniaturised, a non-surgical treatment may have limited benefit.

It cannot replace a hair transplant where surgical restoration is needed. If hair loss is advanced, transplant surgery or medical hair-loss treatment may be more appropriate.

It cannot treat every cause of shedding. Hair loss can be linked to iron deficiency, thyroid disease, low vitamin D, hormonal changes, stress, illness, medication, autoimmune disease, scalp inflammation, traction, postpartum changes or nutritional deficiency. These need to be considered before treatment.

It also should not be used as a substitute for medical assessment if your hair loss is sudden, patchy, painful, associated with scalp redness or scaling, or linked with other symptoms.

What happens during the consultation?

What happens during the consultation?

Your consultation will begin with understanding your pattern of hair loss. You will be asked when the shedding started, whether it was sudden or gradual, whether your parting has widened, whether the crown or hairline has changed, and whether there is a family history of hair loss.

Your scalp will be assessed for density, miniaturisation, inflammation, scaling, redness, scarring, tenderness or signs of infection. This helps decide whether exosome microneedling for hair is suitable, or whether further investigation is needed first.

You will also be asked about medications, recent illness, stress, diet, pregnancy or postpartum changes, menopause, thyroid disease, anaemia, autoimmune conditions, previous hair treatments and any history of poor wound healing.

Blood tests may be recommended if the cause of hair loss is unclear. These may include checks such as full blood count, ferritin or iron studies, thyroid function, vitamin D, B12, folate and other tests where clinically appropriate.

If treatment is suitable, the scalp is prepared and treated with controlled microneedling. A topical exosome-based serum is then applied to the treated area. The appointment will also include aftercare advice, expected recovery, likely treatment course and a realistic timeline for review.

Temporary redness, sensitivity, tenderness, pinpoint bleeding, tightness, dryness or mild flaking can happen after scalp microneedling. You will also be advised what to avoid afterwards, including harsh scalp products, heavy sweating, swimming, direct sun exposure and certain active treatments for a short period.
