How it works
The mechanism, without the marketing
Aqualyx is an injectable deoxycholate based treatment used for small, carefully selected pockets of localised fat. The solution disrupts fat cells, after which the body clears the cellular material over time. It is a contouring tool, not a general weight loss treatment, and the surrounding skin must be considered because reducing volume does not tighten loose skin.
What we assess
The details that change the plan
Pinchable localised fat versus loose skin, muscle or anatomy
Area size, asymmetry and proximity to important structures
Medical history, weight stability and expectations
Whether surgery, weight management or no treatment would be more appropriate
Before, during & after
What the appointment may involve
Before, assessment: The area is examined standing and at rest. We discuss the degree of likely change, swelling and whether skin quality could limit the result.
During, treatment: Multiple injections are placed in a mapped pattern. The treatment can sting and the area often swells soon afterwards.
After, recovery: Swelling, tenderness, bruising, firmness, numbness and temporary unevenness can last days or longer. Compression or other aftercare is advised by area.
Results, course & recovery
What changes, and when
Change is gradual as inflammation settles and the body processes the treated fat. More than one session may be needed, with enough time between treatments to judge the response.
Limits, risks & alternatives
The part that should never be hidden
Aqualyx is not for obesity, large volume reduction, visceral fat or significant skin laxity. Risks include prolonged swelling, nodules, infection, contour irregularity, nerve injury and skin damage. Weight management, surgical liposuction, skin tightening or no treatment may be safer or more effective.
