What is a Weight Loss Consultation?
What is a Weight Loss Consultation?
A medical weight loss consultation is an assessment designed to understand your weight, health and metabolic risk in a more complete way. Rather than focusing only on the number on the scale, it considers factors such as medical history, appetite, eating patterns, sleep, stress, activity levels, previous weight loss attempts and any weight-related health concerns.
You may consider a medical weight loss consultation if you are concerned about:
Difficulty losing weight despite making changes
Weight regain after previous weight loss
Increased appetite or cravings
Weight gain linked to medication, hormones, stress or lifestyle changes
A family history of diabetes, high blood pressure or heart disease
Concerns about central weight gain
Wanting a safe, medically supervised plan
Understanding whether treatment options may be suitable
How does the Weight Loss Consultation works
How does the Weight Loss Consultation works
Our medical weight loss consultation works by first identifying what may be contributing to weight gain or difficulty losing weight. For some people, the main issue may be appetite, portion size, eating patterns or low activity. For others, it may relate to medication, menopause, poor sleep, stress, insulin resistance, thyroid disease, low mood, binge eating, pain, reduced mobility or an underlying medical condition.
The consultation may include measuring your weight, height, BMI and waist circumference.
A medical weight management plan may include nutrition advice, movement guidance, behaviour strategies, blood tests, monitoring, referral, or medication where clinically appropriate.
The aim is not to rush you into treatment. The aim is to understand whether there is a medical reason for your difficulty with weight, whether your current approach is safe, and whether any treatment option is genuinely suitable.

What the Weight Loss Consultation cannot do
What the Weight Loss Consultation cannot do
A medical weight loss consultation cannot guarantee a specific amount of weight loss.
It also cannot replace emergency or specialist medical care. If you have symptoms such as unexplained rapid weight change, chest pain, severe breathlessness, fainting, new swelling, severe abdominal pain, vomiting, signs of an eating disorder, or significant mental health concerns, these need appropriate medical assessment.
The consultation is not designed for people who are already a healthy weight and want to become very slim.
It also cannot replace the foundations of long-term weight management. Medication, where appropriate, is only one part of care.
Most importantly, the consultation cannot give a safe answer without proper assessment. Weight is affected by many factors, and the right plan should be based on your health, not simply on what is popular online.

What happens during the consultation?
What happens during the consultation?
Your consultation will begin with understanding what area concerns you and whether the issue is truly localised fat. Sometimes what looks like stubborn fat may actually be skin laxity, fluid retention, posture, muscle structure, bloating, weight fluctuation or natural anatomy.
We will assess the treatment area, skin quality, skin elasticity, body proportions, medical history, previous procedures and expectations. You will also be asked about pregnancy or breastfeeding, allergies, medications, skin infections, inflammatory conditions, previous reactions to injectables and any relevant medical conditions.
If Aqualyx is suitable, the treatment area is usually marked and cleaned. A local anaesthetic may be used or mixed with the treatment solution to reduce discomfort. The product is then placed into the targeted fatty layer using injections.
After treatment, swelling, tenderness, redness and bruising can occur. These are common expected effects, and swelling can sometimes be quite noticeable, especially in areas such as under the chin.
